Marvin O’Dell Awarded Multiple Honors
from the Western Music Association

Palm Springs Western Musician/Songwriter Honored

Western musician and songwriter, Marvin O’Dell of Palm Springs, was recently honored at the Western Music Association (WMA) Showcase and Awards in Albuquerque, NM. O’Dell was the recipient of multiple awards, walking away with

three of the coveted top spots.

Besides being awarded as Songwriter of the Year, O’Dell was also presented the Song of the Year award for his composition “Jesus & Roy” – a song from his most recent album, “The Silver Screen Cowboy Project” – that recounts his childhood memories of the King of the Cowboys, Roy Rogers.

“The Silver Screen Cowboy Project,” a double-CD of 24 songs by 19 WMA artists received the prestigious President’s Award for excellence. O’Dell produced and released the CD project late last year. This award is given to honor projects that have made a “significant impact in helping the WMA accomplish its mission of preserving, educating about, and advancing western music and the cowboy culture.” The CD consists of all-original music about the movie cowboys of the ‘30’s, ‘40’s, and ‘50’s. O’Dell wrote ten of the songs on this special nostalgic venture.

Upon receiving his awards, O’Dell thanked his wife, Theresa, crediting her with any success he has known as a performer and songwriter. O’Dell performs regularly with the Tom Hiatt band which has fast become a local favorite in the Coachella Valley. He is also pastor of the Desert Cities Baptist Church in Palm Desert. He and his wife own and operate Musikode Productions, a destination resource providing western entertainment for charity events, corporate parties, and other venues. For more information, visit

About The Silver Screen Show...

[Written after the unveiling of the Wm. S. Hart commemorative stamp ceremony in Newhall, CA]: "We are especially glad that we sat next to a member of the Silver Screen Cowboy Project who encouraged us to attend the performance in Hart Hall; it was an entertainment highlight of our year...The Silver Screen Cowboy Project is awesome and we would like to see the presentation again, perhaps for the Silents Under The Stars, or even Bill’s birthday. And, of course, it certainly should be performed at the Autry Museum."

- Steve & Catherine C., Santa Ana, CA

" I love Cowboy Music, and I love the history of the movies. The Silver
Screen Show is a perfect combination of the two! The musicians and
singers are remarkable in their own right! I’d see it again in a heart

- David V., Palm Springs, CA

" What a delightful, fun, nostalgic trip into the world of the Silver Screen cowboys orchestrated by an upbeat, enthusiastic and very talented group of musicians. Most of the music is original with very clever lyrics and instrumentals that draw you in and hold your attention through to the end. Pure enjoyment!"

- Laura B., Palm Springs, CA

"The Silver Screen Show brought back lots of memories of the singing cowboy hero’s of the 40’s and 50’s...great music and don’t want to miss!"

- Elsie H., Palm Desert, CA

"...we really enjoyed your recent [Silverscreen] performance in Palm should be extremely proud of your show, it sounds so professional. A HUGE at-a-boy!! We will probably see the show again and this time bring my brother and his wife...can’t wait for them to hear you!"

- Art & Margie C., Covina, CA

"Thank you for creating the Silver Screen Project and for the wonderful the Arizona Folklore Preserve. I have been a volunteer at the AFP for nine years and have seen and heard many truly outstanding performances; your the best I have ever ’experienced.’ Your music, your interpretation and presentation, and your pictures (there could never be too many) tugged at the heart strings and brought back many wonderful memories...You touched a lot of people this weekend, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. Thank you for The Silver Screen Cowboy Project and ’long may you ride." Gratefully...

- Mark C. MO

Church Venue: ...They sang the old western ballads ... along with some new songs ...They sang for our Sunday morning services. You gotta hear their song "Jesus and Roy"... If you’re looking for something different, I would definitely recommend them for a western day. It’s hard to imagine how our New Englanders got into the music, but they really enjoyed it.

- Pastor Rick. CT

Museum Fundraising: [Musikode Productions’] Tom Hiatt and Marvin O’Dell were the highlight. Their cowboy music had folks on their feet and celebrating the event. Their stage presence was phenomenal, and they received a rousing ovation. We plan to ask them again and again to provide the entertainment for our upcoming events.
